My Biggest Money Trigger and How I Finally Changed It

Hi Reader -

It’s the most lovely time of year in the USA.

TAX Season ;)
And no, I do not actually think it’s lovely!

My longtime biggest financial trigger has been taxes.

I have so many dreadful memories of tax time, sitting on the cold, hard floor with bad overhead lighting while my husband asked me the most boring questions on the tax prep workbook from our accountants.

We only had one chair in the office, so he sat in comfort at the computer while I basically writhed in the corner in both physical and emotional pain.

I would instantly transform from a normally nice human into a ticking time bomb who was so irritable and resentful at the government for taking so much from me.

Even my husband casually mentioning, “Hey, we need to complete the taxes tonight” would summon dark rain clouds and ominous music playing inside my brain.

Why have taxes been so highly charged?…

Maybe because I have always left it to the last minute?
Maybe because I’m an entrepreneur so I’m responsible to withhold taxes on my own?
Maybe because it was the only time my husband and I really talked about money?
Maybe because it was the only time of year I actually knew what my real numbers were?

Regardless…
Every year was the same emotional fight-or-flight reaction.

But guess how things played out this year?
Did I get triggered?

Yes.

But it wasn’t at level 10.
I’d say I was more like a 1 or 2.

The old irritation surfaced, but it was so much softer and manageable.
This is a REALLY BIG DEAL.

When we’re talking about how the body gets triggered, it can often feel out of control. We can find ourselves playing out the historical pattern whether we want to or not. It’s become so practiced that it is unconscious and automatic.

Changing outward behavior can help. (Like setting up some systems of tracking).

Changing thoughts can help. (Let’s look at taxes not as what the Government is taking, but see all that I receive from the government in return! Hooray!).

But let’s be honest…
Changing behavior or thoughts doesn’t necessarily mean that the body changes.

I can still feel Level 10 annoyance toward taxes even if I’ve got smart systems and I tell myself over and over again that it’s a blessing to pay them.

When it comes to highly charged areas of life, its hard to climb out of those patterns if we’re only working with the mind or outward behavior.

You need to go to the root.
And the root is the nervous system.

Did you know that you can repattern the brain and nervous system so that those highly charged triggers don’t fire at the same intensity?

Learning how to do this has felt like some of the most useful and beneficial life skills I have ever learned. Period.

My entry into this work came from a very pivotal course I took from Kate Northrup called Relaxed Money. And while the course was technically about money on the surface, it was really about the Nervous system.

Let’s just say, learning these tools didn’t just help me with money.
It helped me with every single area of my life.

She’s teaching an incredible FREE LIVE WORKSHOP this week to introduce you to the practice and if this is resonating, prioritize being there.

I know free workshops can often just be a long sales pitch. This is not like that. Her free content is just as powerful and deep as her paid program and the paid program builds on what she shares in the free workshop.

Do you need to learn about the nervous system?
Then please attend! You won’t regret it!

It’s free.
It’s live.
And it only happens once a year.

I hope to see you there!

You are loved!

Delightfully,
brooke
