Hi Reader -
This morning, I watched a reel featuring a prominent political leader admitting to being involved in fraud.
That was my tip-off. Unfortunately, confessions aren't typical of politicians...
Just as I suspected, thirty seconds later the reel flashed the words, "THIS IS A DEEP FAKE!", letting me know that what I was seeing was AI-generated and not actually real.
But it sure looked real.
It was so convincing.
The voice sounded identical.
The video footage looked stunningly real...
Moments like this leave me mystified in what the future holds and, honestly, a little fearful of what could be deep-faked to the detriment of society.
Shortly afterwards, I went on my morning walk. I always walk unplugged with the intent of being open to inspiration.
Instead of inspiration, though, I had an image of a family member pop into my mind saying some mean and judgemental things to me. I let that dialogue play in my mind for a moment before I snapped out of it with a big realization...
My thoughts were a deep fake! OMG!
And just like the reel of the politician, I was pulled in.
The image in my mind of this family member was so real! Her voice was so convincing! Everything about the conversation seemed to fit what I imagined she must think of me. It felt so real and true! But this wasn't a memory playing, this was my mind deep-faking me.
Deep fakes are not new.
We have been deep faking ourselves--all on our own--for thousands of years.
The only difference is that now we have the technology to bring those false things into physical form. We can dramatize in a way that can now be seen by everyone, and not just in the seclusion of our egoic mind.
Are you believing any deep fakes? Most especially the ones that play in your own head?
Those, too, can be a detriment to society.
When we believe the deep fakes in our own head, we project our insecurities in our relationships, we make assumptions, we judge, and we become disconnected from each other, and most importantly, from our true selves.
The only way out is to wake up and remember what is true.
Truth is discerned inwardly, not outwardly. We've all been conditioned to some degree to outsource our discernment. While external sources have their place, learning how to trust the divinity within you as your personal guidance system has never been more important.
My litmus test for discerning what is true in my own mind:
- Does this increase my capacity to love?
- Does this remind me that we are all one and all connected?
If not? It's not real.
Here's to the work of discernment and the quest to only believing truth. You can do this.
Remember, you are loved!
Delightfully,
Brooke
